Location History

Sitting on 70 acres outside of Rockville, Indiana is a living history museum with deep linkage to the past.

The 38 structures filled with historical items allow a glimpse of life that existed more than a century ago.

The movement you think you see out of the corner of your eye makes you question if you’re truly alone here. To answer that, no you aren’t. Welcome to Billie Creek Village! It’s time to meet the residents!

Billie Creek Village began formation in 1964 by the residents of Parke County, Indiana. The village was officially opened in 1969 with Billie Creek Village, Inc. formed to conduct and oversee operations.

The village took it name from nearby Williams Creek and consisted of many historic buildings and artifacts from the nearby area. This includes three covered bridges that were moved to the location.

Beeson Covered Bridge was built in 1906. The bridge caught fire August 9, 1979 and again on August 15, 1979. The bridge survived both fires and was relocated to Billie Creek Village on December 4, 1979.

Billie Creek Covered Bridge was built in 1895 and later bypassed by a newer highway. Due to its location, the Billie Creek Covered bridge was included in the village without needed to be relocated.

Leatherwood Station Covered Bridge was built in 1899. Repairs were made in 1940 by the Works Progress Administration. This bridge was later moved to be included as part of Billie Creek Village.

In addition to the covered bridges, Billie Creek Village contains the 1830’s Besson-DePlanty Cabin, Billie Creek Village General Store, pre-1900 post office that became Billie Creek Village Bank, 1913 Schoolhouse, mid-1800’s Dr Rice’s office, 1886 St Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1900’s Gaebler Building, and many more.

After funding issues, Billie Creek village was placed for auction in 2012. Billie Creek Village reopened in 2014 before being sold in 2022. Plans are underway for use as an event and festival location.

The Paranormal

The many buildings and structures of Billie Creek Village are filled with the energies of the past. Walk along Beeson Bridge, Billie Creek Bridge, or Leatherwood Station Bridge and see what spirits may wait to tell their stories of undocumented tragedies from a century ago.

At Dr. Rice’s office, there’s a chance you’ll find this building as busy in death as it was in life. You may find the good doctor loved his profession so much that his spirit remains long after his death in 1857. Perhaps you’ll meet some patients who want to talk about their treatment at this historic medical clinic.

The 1913 schoolhouse served as a place of instruction and education for decades. Did the child who has been photographed in this building love his school so much that he just couldn’t bear to leave, even in death? Or does he look for someone willing to listen to a story of something more tragic?

Stroll into the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and take a seat. Will you find yourself in the middle of a mass that continues into the afterlife? Possibly. Or this may just be the place to have a quiet chat with any spirits who have taken residence in a place they see as comfortable and safe.

Billie Creek Village is imprinted with a mix of energies that have never left. The history of these buildings and stories of forgotten events have resulted in a true town of the dead. It’s up to you to find the clues and piece together the reasons these spirits are still tied to these buildings.

As you join us on our ghost hunts of Haunted Billie Creek Village, you’ll be along the first to investigate! Come along and help us further write paranormal history at this incredible location!

That is, if you manage to survive a night walking around this historic and haunted town of the dead!
