Location History

Driving down Eagle Mills road in North Carolina brings you to the small unincorporated community of Hamptonville.

It’s easy to see that not much has changed since 1806, when Hamptonville was founded by Revolutionary War Colonel Henry Hampton.

Out of the corner of your eye, you spot a brick, two-story building sitting off in the distance. It’s time for your appointment at the haunted Trivette Clinic!

The Trivette Clinic was built in 1932 by Dr. William Trivette for use as a modern community hospital. The Trivette clinic, in contrast with many other clinics of the time, was used to treat ailments, conduct surgeries, and offer radium treatments.

The Trivette Clinic was also notable for the size of its staff. Dr. Trivette employed several nurses and doctors, including his brother Dr. Parks Trivette, a dentist who worked out of the basement. Dr. James Robertson also worked there and is responsible for planting the pine trees in front of the clinic.

In 1938, Dr. Trivette caught influenza, which turned into pneumonia and resulted in his death at the age of 50. In 1939 the Trivette Clinic closed, serving as a supper club and detox facility until being bought by Leo and Mary Rivers in 1945. The building operated as a rest home until Leo’s death in 1953.

V.C. Tooley then operated the rest home until 1954, when Mary Rivers took possession again until 1959. By 1961, the rest home had closed and was sold to a private owner. In the late 1980’s the former Trivette Clinic was sold again and remodeled.

In 2010 the Trivette Clinic was bought and restored by the current owners. The area is now called “Harmony Gardens Nursey”, where shrubs, trees and other plants are sold, and ghost tours are offered.

The Paranormal

At the haunted Trivette Clinic, come visit with the spirits of many patients who never left. You could even be greeted and diagnosed by Dr. Trivette himself!

In the basement, you may encounter a young girl known as “Majesty”. She’s likely to play along the stairs or try and pull a ball out of your hands.  There’s also a chance you’ll run into “Jimmy” as well.

Spend some time on the second floor. Perhaps you can uncover the identity of the little girl who likes to open and close the doors of an old wardrobe.

As you move throughout the building, you’ll no doubt find the former operating room. Don’t let the  well-known spirit of Phillip surprise you while looking at the blood stain on the floor.

While walking the darkened hallways and stepping inside the rooms, there’s the possibility of meeting Helen and Polly. These two former nurses long departed this life, but never clocked out from work.

When join us at this historic and haunted location, be sure to bring a flashlight. The many spirits here  at Trivette Clinic like to communicate, and this is one of their favorite tools to do it!
